A typical store is about 1200 sq. feet, and we have stores as big as 7,000 sq feet in our Mega Model store in Birmingham which opened in July 2010.

History

When Model Aerodrome, established for 40 years under the same ownership in Brighton came on the market, the business was acquired as a showroom for the importers of many prestige model ranges. Following the success of this venture proved a further four shops at Crawley, Eastbourne, Guildford and Maidstone were opened, all adopting the Model Aerodrome name.

Further expansion occurred in 1995 when a famous model shop in Croydon came on the market. A similar opportunity in 1996 saw the company expand outside the south-east for the first time by acquiring a model shop in Plymouth. In March 1999 a completely new type of model shop was opened in Bluewater development in Kent carrying broader ranges including those of market leading brands such as Corgi and Scalextric appealing to all ages. With fantastically enthusiastic staff, the concept took off amongst collectors, car enthusiasts, Formula One followers and model kit makers amongst others. With the arrival of the new wider ranges of planes, trains, boats and cars the company underwent a rebranding and became known as ModelZone.
