Bachmann Class 55 Deltic D9014 The Duke of Wellingtons
Derived from The English Electric DPI Prototype, the British Rail Class 55 diesel lcoomotives were built between 1961 and 62. Designed for the high-speed express passenger sevices between London Kings Cross ann Edinburgh, the replaced the long-haul steam locos, also gained the nickname 'Deltic'. Service continued into the 1960s and 70s, while many coaches were being refurbished. Withdrawal commenced in 1978, following the introduction of the faster trains. Six locos are currently preserved, as well as the prototype English Electric DPI 'Deltic', which currently sits as part of the National Collection at Shildon.
