Having worked at ModelZone for a while now and seeing the fascinating array of models, gadgets and gizmos coming across my desk I decided to step in to the breach and build myself a Model Kit.

The problem of which one to choose then hit me; from the classic Spitfire to the awe inspiring Apollo Lander the range seems endless. I landed on a new set of planes that looked simple enough to build and that I thought were funny, the Egg Plane by Hasegawa. So I picked up my P-40 Warhawk, a few paints, glues and brushes and set off home for the weekend.

The building of the plane was surprisingly easy, the parts fit together well and the instructions were detailed enough that I had all of the parts together in about 3 hours (I know some of you pro’s are laughing, but this was my first one...) and I didn’t glue myself to it once.

The painting was a little more challenging and, although the Humbrol paints I had bought covered very well, my lack of skill really started to show its self during my custom paint job but after 1 or 2 coats of each colour and some fiddling about with the decals my work was done.

Overall I’m quite impressed with my little Egg Plane and it is taking pride of place on my desk. Check out the pictures below, both during the build and the finished article.

Now I’m thinking of moving on to something bigger and more challenging so I’m looking for suggestions. What do you think would be the best-second Model Kit for me to have a go at?

Fishing
An ingenious use of an RC Helicopter. This video showcases the little known hobby of Heli-Fishing, this guy actually catches a fish!

Lego Brick Heli

Lego is one of the most popular toys in the world. It can be used to build many types of buildings and vehicles, including an RC heli!

Stunt Bike Filming

With gyros RC helicopters are very stable, making them ideal to have an HD camera strapped to them. Watch some excellent stunts filmed this way below:

Crop Spraying
This isn't something that springs to mind when thinking of uses for an RC Helicopter, but it's a lot cheaper and safer than a crop spraying plane!

16 decommissioned Harrier jets left RAF Cottesmore and made their final flight over 7 RAF bases and local towns.

The jets have been taken out of service to save £100m.

First seen in action in the 60s, the Harrier was used in close air support and has the ability to take off and land vertically.

Air Vice-Marshal Greg Bagwell said: "The Harrier is a true icon and stands testament to the innovation and excellence of British design and engineering and the skill and courage of our airmen.
