MotoGP Barcelona 2009: A duel took place at the Cataluña race track, which is unique in motorbike racing history and unmatched in excitement. In an incomparable manner, Valentino Rossi beat Jorge Lorenzo in an extremly close fight. A first class Yamaha battle: In the last lap alone there were numerous lead changes.

Right from the start the two Yamaha stars were able to secure their positions into the first corner. Afterwards Lorenzo was in the lead, but Rossi did not hesitate for long. The champion passed the youngster, but was not able to create a race decisive lead in order to secure the victory. In a parallel flight the two Yamahas established a significant lead. Casey Stoner, who was in third seed behind them, came not even close in matching their pace.

The crowd started to cheer and scream heavily, when the local hero Lorenzo passed Rossi midway through the race. The “Doctor” and his teammate fought a fierce and unbelievable battle afterwards. Fighting for every resort, Lorenzo tried to defend himself, but in the third last lap the eight times Barcelona winner passed him. The Spaniard did not give up and stroke back only one lap later.

The great showdown took place in the final lap. On each corner Rossi and Lorenzo were riding and braking side by side. In the third last corner, the native driver from Mallorca seemed to have secured the victory, but Rossi glued himself to Lorenzo in the last two corners and knocked him out on the start finish line, in an impossible act of overtaking. What a victory!
