D808, was one of the Western Regions Warship class locomotives, which were based on the German V200 diesel Hydraulic locomotives, and named after Royal Naval warships (except D800).

D808 was built at BR Swindon Works in June 1959, and allocated initially to Plymouth Laira (84A). D808 was one of only 2 Warships (the other being D810 Cockade) to receive full Yellow ends on while in Green livery in 1967.

Withdrawn from Newton Abbot in 1971, Centaur was scrapped at Swindon in 1972. This model is DCC Ready.

Full Yellow Ends! by GW (Posted on 06/06/2011)

If the Western Region BR Class 42 is your thing, take the opportunity to own one in BR green, it's original livery, but with full yellow ends. This gives it a characteristic appeal all of it's own!
Only D808 "Centaur" (this model) and D810 "Cockade" were finished with full yellow ends in their green incarnations.
As of 2011, Bachmann introduced two green Warships "Hermes" (full green ends) and "Zenith" (small yellow panels), and a BR blue, "Kelly" with full yellow ends.
It is unlikely that the full yellow end variety produced here will be produced in green, though a "Cockade" can't be ruled out at a later date.
The extra £20 on the standard retail price of a Class 42 is in some ways justified by the very limited run of 512.
The model itself is nicely finished, with reasonable detail; the old Mainline tooling still holds it's own against more modern products, it is both smart and accurate. As it is an old tooling, there are no see-through roof grilles; a very minor issue, and no NEM coupling pockets).
This model also comes with DCC operable forward and reverse lights, headcode lights and selectable directional cab lighting. One of the cabs is fitted with two drivers. On a DCC layout, this kind of lighting is superb.
You will need a 21 pin decoder to enable these features; the model is supplied DCC ready, but you must buy a suitable chip seperately.
The loco is very smooth; this model features a mechanism which drives all four axles, ably supported by two brass flywheels.
The detailing pack includes the usual buffer beam pipes, but also a fush finish for the skirting beneath the buffer should you wish to remove the couplings and place it on display.
Highly recommended; get one of only 512 produced, before you wish you had!
