ModelZone Exclusive Sky Marks 1:200 Laker Airways Airbus A300-600
Laker Airways was a wholly private, British independent airline founded by Sir Freddie Laker in 1966. It originally was a charter airline flying passengers and cargo worldwide. Its head office was located at London Gatwick Airport in Crawley, England.
It cemented its place in airline history when it became the first long-haul, low-cost, "no frills" airline in 1977, operating low-fare scheduled services between London Gatwick Airport and New York's John F. Kennedy Airport.
In September 1978, Laker Airways became the UK launch customer for the twin-engine Airbus A300 short-to-medium-haul wide-bodied jet. The airline ordered 10 aircraft in a 314-seat single-class configuration to serve a network of over 600 planned European Skytrain routes. A concept now used by a number of low-cost airlines across Europe and years ahead of it's time.
This Modelzone exclusive model is a replica of Airbus 300 (Registration G-BIMB) that joined the Laker fleet on the 17/01/1981 and flew with the airline until 18/02/1983 when the airline collapsed due to financial problems. The aircraft was sold to Air Jamaica as registration 6Y-JMK
This SkyMarks model is a 1:200 scale plastic clip together model (assembly time approximately five minutes, no glue is required) with a solid plastic body and with very high quality paint and livery decoration and comes complete with a display stand.
This model is one of only 600 pieces produced worldwide exclusively for Modelzone and includes a limited edition certificate.
